What Parents Think
Following our son’s exclusion, he was offered a place at the Horizon School. After asking a number of people in education and social care about the Horizon School, I heard some really good things about the new Headteacher there and what was being done to change the offer for the children who attend there. During my visit, I honestly thought Wow, within the meeting and was listening to how this school would help my son. Since that day they have always focused on his strengths and accepted him for who he is, but at the same time allowed him to mature and change as a person, for the better. He is as an individual, he is respected, but the Horizon have always looked at the future, looked to move forward and looked to capture and address his needs. I have been so impressed with how my son has been supported throughout, how he has always been inspired to achieve and how he has been made to feel valued and included. Having support and belonging is so important to a child and for his parents and by striping everything back and looking at what children need, the Horizon has provided the foundations my son needed and at the same time providing safety, security and belonging.
It hasn’t always been easy for Horizon, he has ups and downs, but this been communicated when needed from Horizon and he has changed his approach and worked with them to succeed. Fortunately for us, the Horizon heard my son’s cry for help and have done everything we could have asked and more to prepare him for the wider world. He has been listened to, nurtured and cared for and now he has everything needed to achieve. Horizon changed his life and I hope other schools will copy this approach.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Since Toni started she has progressed so much in all of her lessons. I also feel she is so much happier in herself as she is so proud every day when she comes home of what she has done at school that day.
The Haven has been brilliant! Sadie has been able to continue with her education in a safe and nurturing environment. She has regained confidence and is a lot happier. The staff are very friendly and kind, they treat the students with respect and compassion. We are so grateful that Sadie got a place at The Haven.
Since joining The Haven Michael has come on leaps and bounds. He has went from zero attendance to 100 percent attendance. He has settled into school and feels safe and secure even though his behaviour can sometimes be an issue, the teachers have dealt with this. overall the teachers and staff should be proud of how far Michael has come on from his first day at school this is all down to the dedication that the school has put into Michael’s education and care, thank you.
